Abstract: The Biotechnology industry performed well in the first six months of 2006. As per Cygnus Research, the global biotechnology industry is estimated to be about USD34.9 billion by the end of June 2006, posting a 11% increase when compared with the biotech industry as a whole, which was at an estimated USD31.5 billion in June, 2005. This increase is mainly based on the vibrant biotechnology industry of the US and Asia Pacific with countries like France and the UK. On the same note, there were the heightened sales of vaccines related to an outbreak of bird flu in countries like Cameroon, Egypt, India, Israel, Jordan, Niger, Nigeria, Djibouti, Lao and Pakistan. In early 2006 chikangunya and dengue in India and Nepal boosted the sales of vaccines.
