Abstract: An attempt to duplicate the benefits of intravenous drug infusion without its potential hazards, several transdermal drug delivery systems (TDDS) have been developed aiming to achieve the objective of systemic medication through topical application to the intact skin surface. Over a decade of intensive research and development efforts, several rate controlled TDDS have been successfully developed and commercialized.
