Value Added Drug Delivery Systems with Botanicals : Approach for Dosage Development from Natural Resources

Abstract: Bioavailability of the metabolites so much so the phytomolecules present in the botanicals is the important factor to determine the therapeutic efficacy of the natural health products being used for specific ailments. There are several phytomolecules having wide spectrum of therapeutic efficacy with very poor absorption as well as bioavailability after oral administration. To overcome this limitation of absorption, development of value added herbal drug delivery systems having better absorption and utilization profiles is of paramount importance. Value added herbal drug delivery systems; based on phospholipid based drug delivery has been proved to be trust worthy delivery system with added advantages over the conventional therapy. An attempt has been made here to highlights various aspects of the value added drug delivery systems, which can be used effectively in phytotherapeutics.
