Abstract: Bioinformatics is a new science and a new way of thinking that could potentially lead to many relevant biological discoveries. The evolution of bioinformatics in India is well comparable to global standards. The word bioinformatics has become a very popular buzzword in science. Many scientists find bioinformatics exciting because it holds the potential to dive into a whole new world of uncharted territory. Bioinformatics offer tremendous advantages as it speed up the research and make it cost effective. It typically reduces drug development cycle from an average of 10 yrs to 3 yrs, thereby cutting down the total cost of research and enabling industries to compete with the global majors in the drug discovery process. Commercially impact of biotechnological products in pharmaceutical market is immense. So bioinformatics is booming the academic and industrial enterprise with introduction of biological experiments that rapidly produces massive amount of database. In the present review authors have tried to emphasize on the potential of bioinformatics in pharmaceuticals.
