Simultaneous Estimation of Gatifloxacin and Ornidazole in Pharmaceutical Dosage Forms by RP-HPLC

Abstract: A simple, precise, rapid and reproducible method has been developed and validated for simultaneous estimation of gatifloxacin and ornidazole in pharmaceutical dosage forms by RP-HPLC. The separation was achieved using RPC-18 end capped (5µm) 250x4.0mm column in isocratic mode with mobile phase acetonitrile: water (85:15v/v), pH 2±0.1 with phosphoric acid at a flow rate of 1.0 ml/min. Detection was carried out at 293.0 nm using a UV detector. The retention time for gatifloxacin was 3.69 min and for ornidazole was 2.37 min. The percentage recovery for gatifloxacin and ornidazole was found to be 99.0-101.0%w/w.
