Introduction
Problems related to the safety and quality of medicines
exist in many places around the world today, not just
limited to developing countries but in developed
countries as well. Circulation of spurious drugs is of
great concern to everybody, i.e., drug industry,
regulators, medical profession and the general public.
Some incidents have ended in tragedy, often with
children as the victims. They are caused by the use of
drugs containing toxic substances, or impurities, drugs
whose claims have not been verified, drugs with unknown
and severe adverse reaction, substandard preparation, or
outright, fake and counterfeit medicines.
