An Overview of Innovation Policy and Innovation Index

Introduction: After the World Wars, it is believed that not Wars, but technology that decides the supremacy of a country. Intellectual status of citizens in a country is found to play a critical role in the economic growth of a country. Ideas generated by the citizens, have to be best protected so that the country’s economic growth further increases. Signing WTO, TRIPS agreement, it is mandatory for the members and several countries like India update already existing legislations and vest new legislations for those not existing earlier with respect to intellectual property protection. With respect to trade, legislations were also tuned to trade services. The objective of the article is to analyze two reports made and emphasize the status of different countries in the World in terms of trade, intellectual property, governance etc. One of the reports “Global Innovation Policy Index” is released by The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF), and Kauffman Foundation, USA. The second report “Global Innovation Index” released by World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). The former report emphasizes and assesses the status of government policies and implementations whereas the later assess the status of innovations in a country.
