Matada Shiva Nitesh*, Balamuralidhara V., T.M. Pramod Kumar & Gayathri Raju

Introduction: Food pharma (Nutraceuticals) convergence is a fusion of food based products with medical products for general health benefits. Nowadays convergence is taking major part in the magnification of the pharmaceutical market. Demand for convergence has become more obvious in recent years due to the declining economy and increase in competition within the market, thus there is the need for food pharma convergence. The healthcare sector has taken up on this trend and there has been a convergence of pharmaceutical and food industries under which the pharma companies are creating food-like products with health benefits, although the big food companies are creating drug-like products applying traditional pharma company techniques like clinical trials to authenticate health claims on their food products. Food and pharma companies are striving to initiate themselves more effectively in the health and wellness market by producing as food supplements like vitamin pills and nutritional powders that contain medicinal ingredient that come from food but are more commonly sold in the medicinal form. Finally it may be concluded that food and pharma companies must work hand in hands to meet the consumers and patients requirements so that they fit into a healthy and active lifestyle.
