Intellectual Property in Mexico - A Perspective

Introduction: Intellectual-property rights in Mexico are protected by a combination of national laws and International conventions and agreements like any other developed nation. The Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) is the patent and trademark administration body of Mexico, created on 10 December 1993. Mexico is a member of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). Mexican law protects intellectual-property rights (IPR), and penalizes violations. Enforcement activity in Mexico has increased over the last few years with the creation of an IP rights enforcement unit that combines federal prosecutors and the police force. Industrial property law in Mexico has been changing in order to be updated with international norms, including NAFTA requirements.
