Pharmacy Practice and Drug Regulations - Confrontation and Confusions

Vinuth Chikkamath, Soumya NHM, Vijay Kumar R & Anantha Naik Nagappa*

Introduction: India being a democratic country, has adequate rules and regulations to ensure public safety and consumer protection as prescription medicines are inherently risky and are likely to cause slow, cumulative damage to health which takes years to manifest. The recent activism by developed nations has led to the practice of pharmacovigilance. Pharmacovigilance is a continues surveillance program which collects and records episodes and signals from the general public of an adverse drug reaction across the society at large. In pharmacovigilance the incidences of severe drug induced interactions are documented and submitted across the sub zonal, zonal, national and global nodal centers. The centers get alerts on the nature and types of signal and alerts through government regulators to access and implement the ADR so that further damage by the use of this medicine is prevented1.
