Role of Caregiving in Alzheimer’s Disease

Introduction: Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of neurodegerative disorder in elderly and is primarily associated with memory impairment. Currently there is no cure for Alzheimer’s dementia and the patient eventually dies from the disease. It is a chronic debilitating disorder and the affected individuals beyond a certain stage, may become completely dependent on their caregiver. Alzheimer’s caregiving could also prove to be physically, emotionally and financially challenging. Hence sufficient medical, economic and psychosocial support system is essential for both Alzheimer’s patients as well as their caregiver. Here we primarily discuss the current scenario and challenges associated with Alzheimer’s caregiving.
