Introduction
Mass Spectroscopy (MS) is the analytical detector of
choice for many separation techniques including High
Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Gas
Chromatography (GC). MS is a mature and sophisticated
technology and as a result, many reference spectrum
libraries of molecules are readily available. The Camag
TLC-MS interface is a new instrument for eluting
separated fractions on a TLC plate or other planar
surface into MS. The elution head of the instrument
under gas pressure forms a tight seal around the
spot/band to be extracted, after which the eluting
solvent is pumped at one end of the spot and extracted
at the opposite end. The solvent eluted at the other end
contains dissolved components from the dried blood spot.
This extraction solvent is fed directly into an MS for
analysis. The TLC-MS interface is designed to be easy to
connect to an MS instrument from any leading
manufacturer.
