Abstract
Indian Biotechnology industry during last financial year
grew at a modest 10.5 %, which is in sharp contrast with
global Biotech industry which nose dived due to global
slow down. It has been insulated from the severe
volatility at the global level perhaps due to its small
size. The Indian Biotechnology industry has benefited
from the recent focus on knowledge-based industries.
Under the present economic scenario development of
Biotechnology in India is crucial because of its generic
status implications for economic production in the
sectors like agriculture, health, industry and
environment by and large.
