Equipment Maintenance

Abstract: The critical contribution that effective management and use of medical equipment brings to health service delivery is only recently gaining recognition. Managing medical equipment has often been misunderstood as the mere procurement of accessible products with in a giving budget. However, this narrow perspective has proven neither operational, nor cost effective in the running of health services. Equipment maintenance is an important means to evaluate the progress towards goals of providing cost- effective solutions to health problems through safe and reliable health technologies. There is considerable variation in the level and complexity of equipment needs used in the blood bank. Although it is thought that more sophisticated equipment requires less attention, the opposite is often true. All equipment needs regular maintenance to ensure that day are working as efficiently and reliably as possible.
