Controlled Drug Delivery System: General Considerations and Applications

Introduction
The main drawback of using immediate release conventional dosage form is lacking in the efficiency of controlling the proper plasma drug concentration. Considering this problem with conventional dosage form, the newer drug delivery systems are being investigated with the objectives of delivering the drug at a rate dictated by the needs of body over the desired time of treatment and spatial placement related to target a drug to a specific organ or tissue. Such type of drug delivery system can improve the therapeutic efficacy and safety of a drug by precise temporal and spatial placement in the body1.
