Abstract: The pharmacy education in India has seen a tremendous growth since its inception, with a pharmacy class at Medical College, Madras in 1860 to dedicated post graduate and doctoral studies at various NIPERs (National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research). In the last fifteen years, the number of seats at undergraduate level has increased many fold. There was a resolution at IPC Hyderabad, 2005 for a separate Pharmacy University and the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh announced a separate University for Pharmacy. The time is now ripe for such a move to be initiated across other states. There are ample reasons to justify the cause.
