Fixed Dose Combination Medicinal Products: Science, Necessity and Regulation.

Introduction

It has been the common practice to use combination of medicinal products as means to enhance therapeutic effectiveness, decrease the potential for adverse drug reactions, reduce cost and improve patient compliance to medications. When two or more active pharmaceutical substances are combined in a fixed ratio of doses intended for administration as one product, then such products are known as Fixed Dose Combination (FDC) Medicinal Products. Such FDCs are always a matter of concern for all those interested in promoting safe, effective and appropriate use of medicines which range from consumers to manufacturers to the regulators.
