Global Pharmaceutical industry during 2009 was US$825
billion and is expected to grow to US$1.1 trillion by
2014. Global bulk drug industry in 2009 was estimated to
be US$102.35 billion and is expected to grow to US$
139.2 billion by 2014, at a CAGR of 10.6%.
Globally, as the generic drugs gain market-share over
the branded prescription drugs due to cost containment
measures and a large number of drugs going off patent,
the demand for bulk drugs, also known as Active Pharma
Ingredients (API), has been going up.
China was the largest Bulk Drug producing country in the
world in 2009, followed by Italy and India, which
increased its global share from 3.5% to 6.5% in the last
