Abstract: Evidence-based medicine (EBM) is relatively new disciplines that use quantitative tools to assess the value of information, differentiate fact from myth, and integrate so-called best evidence into multivariate models for the assessment of prognosis, response to therapy, selection of laboratory tests, and other complex problems that influence individual safe and effective patient care. The basic principle of evidence based medicine (EBM) is to treat the patient where there is evidence of benefit and not to treat where there is evidence of no benefit (or harm). This article introduces to the critical appraisal of randomized controlled trial, meta-analyses and systematic reviews to guide their evidence-based clinical practice.

 
What is Evidence Based Medicine: Evidence based medicine is the conscientious, explicit and judicious current best evidence in making decisions about the care of the individual patient. The basic principle of evidence based medicine (EBM) is to treat the patient where there is evidence of benefit and not to treat where there is evidence of no benefit (or harm).
