Deepti. B1, Santhrani Thaakur2 & Srinivasa Babu.P1

Introduction: Nature has provided a source of medicinal agents for thousands of years and an incredible number of modern drugs have been isolated from natural sources, many based on their use in traditional medicine1. This revival of interest in plant derived drugs is mainly due to the current widespread belief that “green medicine” is safe, and clinically effective, better tolerated by patients, less expensive and globally competitive. Coccinea grandis is well known in traditional system of Indian medicine, also called as Ivy gourd. It is a fast growing plant which may grow up to 4 inches per day. Its native range includes Africa and Asia, India, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, etc. It is effective against mouth ulcers, constipation, diabetes, liver related disorders, asthma, injuries, pain, etc. So it can be used in hypoglycaemia, as antioxidant, as immune grower etc2.
