Taste Masked Orally Fast Dispersible Tablets of Promethazine Hydrochloride for Pediatrics

Introduction: Promethazine hydrochloride is a first-generation H1 receptor antagonist of the phenothiazine chemical class used as an antihistamine antiemetic. Promethazine hydrochloride comes as a tablet and syrup to be taken by mouth and as a suppository to use rectally. When Promethazine hydrochloride is used to treat motion sickness, it is taken 30 to 60 minutes before travel. On longer trips, Promethazine hydrochloride is usually taken in the morning and before the evening meal on each day of travel. Promethazine hydrochloride tablet is difficult to swallow for pediatrics and if it is a liquid, one must be careful in giving the spoonful dose to measure or use a measuring spoon or cup that comes with the medication or use a spoon made especially for measuring medication1,2.
