Shailesh Sharma* & Shreya Kaushal

Introduction: A new concept of Chronopharmaceutics has emerged, wherein research is devoted to the design and evaluate the drug delivery systems that release a therapeutic agent at a rhythm that ideally matches the biological requirement of a given disease therapy1. Bi-layered tablet are tablets containing subunits that may be either the same (homogeneous) or different (heterogeneous)2. Bi-layer tablets are prepared with one layer of drug for immediate release and second layer designed to release the drug as a second dose or for extended release. These tablets are suitable for sequential release of two drugs in combination or separate two incompatible substances. Bi-layer tablets are preferred to maintain uniform drug level, reduce dose and side effect, chronotherapeutically delivery of drug and increase the safety margin for high potency drugs and thus offer better patient compliance3.
