Tu Youyou A Pharmaceutical Scientist with Nobel Prize 2015

Introduction: A pharmaceutical scientist and educationist of China, Professor Tu Youyou, has been awarded Medicine Nobel Prize this year for her discovery of Artemisinin as a cure for chloroquine resistant malaria. This is a matter of satisfaction and excitement for all pharmacy professionals. Her discovery has saved millions of live throughout the world who would have otherwise died. She has shared the Medicine Nobel Prize with other two scientists: William C. Campbell of America and Satoshi Ōmura of Japan. The latter two were honoured for their discovery of medicines for river blindness and filariasis. Dr. Satoshi Ōmura too was with the pharmaceutical background as she received one of her PhDs in Pharmaceutical sciences. The uniqueness of Tu Youyou is that she is born, had her education and carried research entirely in China. She is a professor and supervisor to doctoral degree programmes without having an academic master degree.
