Abstract: Many elderly patients will have difficulties in taking conventional oral dosage forms because of tremors and dysphasia. Rapidly disintegrating tablets of piroxicam were prepared using different super-disintegrants like Sodium Starch Glycolate (SSG), carmellose, low substituted Propyl cellulose and micro crystalline cellulose (Avicel PH-102) was used as diluent. Twelve formulations were prepared using different super-disintegrants; Mannitol, Sodium saccharin and flavor enhance the organoleptic properties. The formulations were evaluated for mechanical strength, wetting time, in-vitro, in-vivo disintegration and drug release characteristics.
The tablet apart from fulfilling all official and other specifications exhibited rapid disintegration and faster release rate of piroxicam. |
