Formulation and Characterization of Amoxycillin Trihydrate Microspheres

Amul N. Mishra, A. C. Rana, G. D. Gupta & R. K. Nema

Abstract: Microspheres of Amoxicillin Trihydrate were prepared using ethyl ellulose, chitosan, sodium alginate and egg albumin. Microspheres were evaluated for particle size analysis, flow roperties, drug content, entrapment efficiency, surface morphology and in-vitro release studies. The prepared microspheres were found to be discrete, spherical and free flowing with smooth surface. The release of amoxicillin trihydrate from the microspheres was found slow and extended over longer period of time. The drug release followed first order kinetics and was found to be diffusion controlled. The drug release profile can be arranged as: Chitosan > sodium alginate > ethyl cellulose >egg albumin.
