Abstracts: Medicines (or drugs used interchangeably)
are the most important tool in saving lives, restoring
health and preventing diseases and epidemics. It is
impossible to think of modern heath care without
involvement of medicines. In order to promote health, it
is essential that the needed medicines are made
available at all times at an affordable price.
Pharmaceutical companies develop most of the medicines
and research institutions contribute very insignificant
numbers. As large amount of time and resources are spent
on medicine development, it is argued and necessary too
that the inventor must be offered opportunity to recover
the resources spent and make some profits too. This
motivates inventor to invest more and more in research
and development in search of new medicines. Such an
opportunity is offered under national patent laws
providing exclusive manufacturing and marketing rights.
The patent holder is at liberty to fix the price of his
invention. |
