Development and Validation of Stability-Indicating HPLC Method for Determination of Rutin and Quercitin

Introduction: Gokhshura (Tribulus terrestrisLinn) of Family Zygophyllaceae is an indigenous plant which has been mentioned in Ayurveda with several clinical properties1. Many parts of the plant are used as traditional herbal medicine to treat various ailments such as kidney infection, coughs, spermatorrhoea, scabies, anemia, opthalmia. Fruits contain triterpenoid and steroidal saponin2, traces (0.001%) of an alkaloid, fixed oil, small quantity of essential oil, resin and nitrates3, 4. Flavonoid display a remarkable role in the various pharmacological activities including antiallergic, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effect. Two flavonoid Rutin and Quercitin are present in the T.terrestris plant5.
